“Entelechy ‘s meetings, conversations and encounters with Casa Das Fases has re-energised us as a company. It has given us the courage to re-imagine ourselves; the courage to place ‘the human’ at the centre of all that we do.
Ricocheting from the visit there have been three ideas:-
In Brazil we learnt of the process of ‘uncovering’ . In London we have started that process in our own neighbourhoods, building connections with invisible and isolated groups people meeting desperate for connection, recognition and new experience. We have the courage to embark on these adventures both knowing and not knowing what we are doing: the process of ‘deep hanging out’ Listening, absorbing, finding connection. And so our creative family grows new voices and networks are woven into the journey.
The Brazilian exchange has made us think more about ideas of ownership and belonging. In strategic meetings with our members we have swapped the flip carts for rice and chicken. Creative planning and policy is increasingly fixed over communal meals-groups contribute both ideas and food. It has reconnected us with the domestic; with the everyday. This has dramatically increased participants capacity/ their agency to articulate, to champion and advocate for the practice. Our elders company now engage in face to face meetings with funders. They have raised 65k in the last 6 months.
Most importantly we have exchanged ways of working – We bought a methodology back from Brazil; a simple and beautiful idea. Little Boxes of Memories. A shoe box, transformed, hangs around a person’s neck . The box contains objects; the objects embody fragments of a narrative, a episode, an experience in the tellers life. I used the box to tell the story of my own journey to Brazil. Our elders company made their boxes and walked out with their stories to schools, old people’s groups, to the Southbank centre. We swapped experiences with elders in Londrina, photographs of London and Londrina. Shared points of contact, currency and exchange.
From Casa das Fases we have learnt a new language: new terms for collaboration and engagement. Our companies have flirted together. We have started to date. We are now walking out together. So we arrive at this dangerous point: the conversation about commitment. We can see a future. We have plans. We have been exploring ways of using digital technology to enable 80 yr olds in Londrina to work creatively making new art works with 80 yr olds in London. We are planning a joint production of The Tempest. Already company members are having detailed negotiations with their cardiologists about safe routes from Heathrow to Rio. Of course it’s early stages. But it has begun. The first words that greeted me in Londrina were: “Welcome to our dream”. So for Entelechy and Casa Das Fases the Points of Contact programme between Londrina and London has created a new dream; a shared dream. The journey continues”.

Teia, troca, (feed back).
